def sumUp(start, end):- Defines the function.
start and end are parameter names. Defining the function does not run its body. sumUp(4, 8)- Calls the function. The argument 4 supplies
start and the argument 8 supplies end. total = 0- Initialises a local accumulator inside each call. A later call starts with a fresh total.
range(start, end + 1)- Supplies the integers 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 for this call. Adding one to the excluded stop lets the loop include
end. return total- Sends the final value back to the caller.
result receives it, and the separate print(result) displays it.
Python terminology distinguishes parameters in the definition from arguments at the call. AQA's examinable terminology uses “parameter” for both; follow the wording of your exam question.
