Terms of tuition
Version 2026-09-08-1
The service is provided by Michael Print, trading as CompSciTutoring.co.uk. Contact michael@compscitutoring.co.uk.
Submitting a request is not confirmation. A separate contract for a lesson is formed when the requested or proposed time is accepted and a confirmation is issued.
The contracting customer for paid tuition must be 18 or over. A student aged under 18 may use their own account, but a linked parent must request the paid lesson, accept these terms and act as payer. The parent confirms that they are authorised to arrange the tuition. An adult student may contract and pay directly.
A standard 60-minute lesson booked directly through this service costs £50. The adult requester authorises Stripe to save a payment method for off-session use and authorises a £50 charge for each separately approved lesson, normally attempted 24 hours before it starts or immediately if approval happens later. The lesson is shown as confirmed and joining is enabled only after Stripe reports successful payment. No card number is stored by CompSciTutoring.co.uk.
Weekly or fortnightly tuition is not a prepaid subscription and has no separate subscription fee. Each approved occurrence is a separate lesson contract and charge. The customer can cancel an individual lesson or that lesson and all later generated occurrences from the dashboard, subject to the fair lesson-change policy below.
UK consumer law normally gives you 14 days after an online lesson contract is confirmed to change your mind. When requesting a paid lesson, the single terms acknowledgement expressly asks for tuition to begin on the selected date, including where that date falls within the 14-day period, and acknowledges that the statutory cancellation right ends once that lesson has been fully delivered. If you cancel after the lesson has started but before it is complete, you may need to pay a fair amount for what has already been provided. This is separate from the ordinary 24-hour lesson-change policy below.
The main way to cancel is through your dashboard: open the lesson, choose Reschedule or cancel, then confirm the cancellation. If you cannot access the dashboard, you may instead send any clear cancellation statement to michael@compscitutoring.co.uk. You may use, but do not have to use, this model wording:
To: Michael Print, trading as CompSciTutoring.co.uk, 81 Cedar Gardens, Newton-Le-Willows, WA12 8AD, michael@compscitutoring.co.uk
I give notice that I cancel my contract for the following tuition: [lesson date and time].
Booked on: [date]
Customer name: [name]
Customer address: [address]
Date sent: [date]
The ordinary booking policy allows cancellation or rescheduling without a lesson charge when more than 24 hours' notice is given. Within 24 hours, the student or parent should use account Messages to ask Michael for a change; cancellation or rescheduling is then at Michael's discretion. Any charge will only be retained or made to the extent it is fair and reflects loss that could not reasonably be avoided. Illness, emergencies, technical failure and other exceptional circumstances are considered individually. This policy does not reduce statutory consumer rights.
If Michael cancels, an alternative time or full refund will be offered. Refunds are returned through the original payment method. A statement on the website does not replace the customer's statutory remedies where a service is not supplied with reasonable care and skill.
You need a compatible browser, stable internet connection and working audio. Lessons use the private CompSciTutoring.co.uk lesson space, opened from the authenticated dashboard. Reasonable efforts will be made to resolve service-side disruption; neither party is responsible for events genuinely outside their reasonable control.
Tuition teaches concepts, problem solving and review skills. Michael will not complete assessed work, examinations or coursework on a student's behalf. Users must not upload unlawful, harmful, confidential or third-party material they are not entitled to share.
Tuition will be provided with reasonable care and skill and will be adapted using the information reasonably available. Learning also depends on attendance, independent work, school teaching and assessment decisions outside Michael's control, so no particular grade, examination result, university admission or other outcome is guaranteed. This does not limit remedies where the service is not provided with reasonable care and skill.
After the eligibility threshold is met, an eligible adult customer may choose to submit an honest review. Submitting a review is optional and is not rewarded. Before submitting, the reviewer is told that, if the review is published, the first name from their account will appear publicly with their rating, wording, broad relationship description, publication month and verified-customer label. Surnames, email addresses, student names and lesson records are not published. The reviewer can edit or withdraw the review from their dashboard.
Michael retains ownership of original teaching materials and grants the student a personal, non-transferable right to use them for their own learning. They must not be sold, published or shared outside the student's household without permission. The student retains ownership of work they create and grants the service only the limited permission needed to store, display and process it for tuition, security, safeguarding and legal compliance. Users must have permission to upload third-party material.
Users must not harass or threaten others, impersonate another person, attempt unauthorised access, share illegal or harmful content, disclose another person's private information or misuse private lesson links. Pornography and content promoting suicide, self-harm or eating disorders are prohibited. A message, lesson-space item or lesson can be reported using Report concern. Access to content or an account may be restricted, content may be hidden, and an account may be suspended where reasonably necessary to protect a person, investigate a report, secure the service or comply with law. Any response will be proportionate; prepaid tuition not supplied will be refunded unless another lawful remedy applies. Immediate safeguarding or legal action may be taken without advance notice.
Anyone affected may report suspected illegal or harmful content, complain about a failure to act, or challenge the hiding of content or restriction of an account. Use Report concern beside the relevant content where available, or email michael@compscitutoring.co.uk with a clear description, the relevant lesson or message, and the outcome sought. Every complaint will be considered; it will not be dismissed automatically as unfounded.
Receipt will normally be acknowledged within two working days and a substantive response aimed for within ten working days. The response will explain the decision and action taken where it is lawful and safe to do so. If you disagree, reply to the outcome or email with the subject Online safety appeal and explain why. The decision will be reconsidered afresh as far as practicable, the outcome will be recorded, and any content or access incorrectly restricted will be restored promptly. See the safeguarding page for urgent concerns. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits statutory consumer rights.
